I am somewhat amazed and I also felt like tonight might be the night. Fedor got caught and it was quick.
To me it doesn't destroy any legacy or even make Fedor move down the rankings. I still think he is the best fighter on the planet. He made a mistake and that is all it takes when you fight the best in MMA.
On another thread I think I sort of predicted this upset... lol, can't take credit for a full-fledged prediction, but I did make mention of the distinct possibility ;D

HAHA, well His number was due to be called. it happens. I haven't been this shocked since Douglas/Tyson
damn I told everybody if i had 100 dollars Id put it on Werdum just for the hell of it.
Where does this rank on the upset scale?
U know, I still don't know why Dana cut Werdum.. he just lost to Junior Dos Santos.

This is the biggest upset since Tyson/Douglas.
Werdum got caught by Dos Santos and he got smashed, but you are right. Dana cut a very good fighter that is better than a lot of current UFC HWs. One of the reasons, I'm sure, is that Werdum isn't a big draw... but that may change now lol.

Did Fedor just underestimate how awesome Werdum is on the ground? He jumped into a very bad position.

Did Fedor just underestimate how awesome Werdum is on the ground? He jumped into a very bad position. I just think Fedor has so much confidence in his own skills that he left himself open thinking he would get out. He had very good technique in trying that escape from the triangle. It was textbook, but the only problem was the Werdum's triangle was also textbook lol. I'm sure that never actually losing a fight (his only loss was b.s.) and winning 31 in a row kind of leads you to be overconfident.

Fedor is like Jason Vorhees though.. I fully expected him to survive that. If iwere Werdum, Id go for the title.. no way in hell i would've asked for a rematch. He won't survive next fight.

I agree Donnie, but I loved the fact that Werdum gave props to Fedor. He said "On this night I beat Fedor, BUT Fedor is the best fighter in the world."
For him to ask to give the guy a rematch is the most respect I have ever seen a fighter give another. (Pat Berry hugging Cro Cop DURING their fight was second on the list lol).

LOL Right and how did that turn out for Pat Barry? id beat Overeem, take the belt and THEN rematch Fedor. He's already beaten Overeem before. He probably doesn't think it is a challenge. I am sure the is more money in a Fedor rematch as well lol

Just wonder if Strikeforce are gonna do some PPV? They put on a very good product. I think the UFC are still way ahead but SF can compete.

I don't think they will do PPV any time soon. CBS and Showtime probably pay most of the bills for them. PPV would probably be a major financial gamble. One big loss and the company may crumble. Don't forget that one bad mishap put Donald Trump and Mark Cuban out of MMA

Damn Josh Barnett, wonder if they will ever give him a chance?

I don't even know if Barnett can get a license in the United States yet. I am sure he cannot in California. He would have been a great test for Fedor too. I think Barnett would beat Werdum. Barnett is awesome or he was...

Speaking of Strikeforce, I think the UFC now have to be careful who they cut etc.. they are just handing over household names to strikeforce.

I agree Donnie. These fighters are moving to Strikeforce and adding legitimacy to the brand. Also, I think Jake Shields is a great (boring) fighter that has absolutely no drawing power. Silva will kill him at 185 and GSP will do the same at 170. He is making a big mistake heading for the UFC, because he too will be cut after his losses come in the octagon!
