Whether you love Brock Lesnar or hate Brock Lesnar, You have to give him credit after tonight.
How many MMA fighters would have survived that onslaught of ground n pound from one of the hardest hitting heavyweights in UFC history? A Man who wears 5x gloves and literally has 2 refrigerators for hands.
I know the Brock haters will say the fight should've been stopped or Brock looked terrible standing up and I won't disagree with any of these sentiments. If Referee Josh Rosenthal stops that fight, I wouldn't have argued. Would not have written one negative word in my article about a BS stoppage.
However, Brock made his own luck and his own success. He did just enough to let the ref know he was ok and avoided the fight being stopped.
Brock was able to rebound in round 2 which showed he wasn't hurt, and earned lots of respect from people who say he isn't a true MMA fighter by pulling off a very high level ground transition into a beautiful arm triangle choke. Brock showed his improvements by being able to adjust the choke and turn the corner.. Novice ground fighters would never have secured that move.
I know people can say Shane beat himself, Shane had terrible cardio and spout thousands of excuses, but Brock showed a champions heart. Brock showed the meddle and ability to work through adversity and that is the TRUE TEST OF A MAN AND A CHAMPION! How do u recover from adversity? How do u carry on after being demolished in a round? He couldve lost confidence, he could've tapped like GSP did to Matt Serra when he got beat down on the ground, but NO, Brock survived and proved he is an MMA fighter and belongs atop the MMA HW Rankings.
Brock admitted in his post fight press conference that he has a long way to go, and that alone is why I respect Brock Lesnar and why he is my favorite MMA fighter. With his humbleness and work ethic, this may have been the best chance anyone had to defeat Brock Lesnar... Cain Velasquez...... i wouldn't want to be u buddy!
