Just ask Daniel Orton...
I am a fan of all UK players and teams - especially basketball. Daniel Orton really pissed me off earlier this year when he made his announcement for the NBA draft.
The thought of him leaving isn't what pissed me off, it was the comment he made. He said "The only color that really matters is green," in reference to money.
I felt like a 4-year college career would have made Orton a force to be reckoned with. I also felt like, at best, he would be mediocre if he ever made an NBA team. He has a lot of skill, but he also has a monster-sized frame to carry around on an already surgically repaired knee!
I wonder how much of that "Green" Orton is banking on now? First he gets drafted by the team (Orlando) who has the best defensive player in the NBA and one of the top centers in the NBA playing his position. He's used to riding the pine though, because he didn't even start for his college team and didn't play a single game during his high-school senior year.
In his first two summer-league NBA games Orton has looked like a horrible pick... as he was. This guy is 1-for-14 and has already been ejected from a game. He is not skilled enough to play in the NBA. He does have some talent and he definitely has an NBA type body, but for a guy who claims that the only color that matters is green to throw up such terrible numbers, well I think he should look back and say to himself "I should have gotten a degree"!!!
All the haters who say "Calipari had 5 players drafted in the first round and didn't win the NCAA tourny" can look at this and come to a realization... The NBA doesn't always make the right decision. Orton will not be in the league in 5 years (maybe not next year) and I doubt Bledsoe will either.
