Brock Lesnar is still playing his part as a pro wrestler! I have been involved in the wrestling business and wrestled for more than 10 years and I can't remember a better baby-face turn than the one Lesnar pulled off Saturday!!!
Any pro wrestler can tell you that it is so easy to turn heel and have the crowd hate you. Hell, all you have to do is call a fat lady fat or tell some guy his ugly wife is ugly lol. You know, just point out obvious truths lol. Seriously all you have to do is turn on your friend and fellow baby-face or start insulting people.
Now, turning baby-face is not so easy. You have to earn the fans respect and trust. Usually by running in and saving a poor baby-face from a beating by several other heels, but that isn't really possible in MMA is it?
Brock Lesnar entered the arena the other night to the most intense boos I have ever heard from an MMA crowd. He was most definitely the heel. This guy just had a near-death experience and was lucky to be alive, let along fighting for the HW title.
He came into the ring and the baby-face (Shane Carwin) did the unthinkable. He took the monster down with massive punches and punished him into the canvas to a near ref stoppage, but Lesnar showed the determination and intestinal (no pun intended) fortitude to continue and make it into round two.
Lesnar outlasted Carwin and took him down in the second round and even won the fight in the most unpredictable way... a submission!!!! He took the mic after the fight and declared to be a new man. He used the word's "humbled champion", but then to keep some of his heel fans he also said "I am still the baddest S.O.B. around" and you know what, he was right!!! The entire crowd was cheering and eating out of the palm of his massive hands!!!
Complete success. Dana White may be the best MMA promoter on the planet, but this seemed like it was almost written in a script by Vince McMahon! This was the best baby-face turn in the history of ....ummm... MMA!!!!
