I can see both sides of the coin on this. I honestly hope, NE didn't jump the gun, just because they won 41-14 without Moss catching a pass.
NE are a team built on chemistry and are the ultimate "TEAM." Outside of Tom Brady, they've never been a household name team and have had tons of success because of that. I think Moss being in the final year of his deal and rumbling about it causes tension in the locker room. So, on from that aspect, I think NE are smart to make the trade. Moss is aging, isn't in your future plans, so getting a 3rd round pick can turn into the next defensive star your team currently lacks.
New England also have a great, upcoming guy named Brandon Tate, that I am positive will become a star. His kick returns are phenomenal and he has shown ability to be a good WR.
I've learned to not question Bill Belichick and I honestly think this will turn out great for New England. 3 SB titles without him... 0 with him.
On the flip side of the coin, Minnesota became dangerous with a re-signed Randy Moss and eventually Sidney Rice on the other side with Percy Harvin in the slot. Heck, Favre may come back next year after all.
So what do u think? Smart or dumb?

I think there are a lot of positives for both teams. I think the Vikings have the short-term better end of the deal, because they are in desperate need of a WR! I think Moss will make them a much better team and make things a little easier on AP!
NE will reap the benefits in the later years and on the back end of the deal. Moss would have been gone after this season anyway. This way, they got something for him and a third round pick can definitely equal a great player!

I think this decision could end up being bad for the Vikings. Moss wants to get paid and is on the downside of his career. It doesn't help that Favre hasn't played all that well this year either. Now, this could be the move that the team needed, but all I can think about is what this team might have been if they traded for McNabb or if Favre went to training camp.
This definitely doesn't help the Patriots right now. If they're trying to make it to the Super Bowl this year, the Pats just shot themselves in the food. I don't see how trading your team's deep threat will help you team right now, unless they trade for Vincent Jackson. Now, this move does help them in the future, I mean they now have multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks. The Pats can now have enough ammo to do whatever they want in next year's draft, such as draft Ingram no matter where he is projected to go and get the linebacker they like the most.

I think Belichick was smart. The trading deadline, i believe is week 6. So make the move on your bye week, that way u have time to work in new guys and u get something for Randy whereas u would lose him for nothing and he'd be a giant distraction as the season went along.
NE never needed Moss to win 3 titles. Sure their D isn't quite as good, but I do think they will figure it out. Sometimes, as u see in Cincy, having too many weapons is a bad thing. The qb tries so hard to keep his receivers happy, he make mistakes and it takes away from the running game.
same with NE. I think u try so hard sometimes to get Randy involved, it kills the rhythm and flow.
we will see.
